How To Put Service On Iphone

Learn how to use dual SIM with an eSIM on the Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR device running iOS 12.1.1 or later.

Set up your cellular plan with eSIM

One of your cellular plans will use the nano-SIM and the others will use the eSIM. The eSIM is provided by T-Mobile or another carrier, which will be stored digitally on your iPhone. To activate an additional cellular plan, you can scan the QR code given by the other carrier, download a carrier app for activation, or enter the information manually. T-Mobile has it's own app, .

Use a carrier app

For steps to activate prepaid service using T-Mobile's app, see .

  1. Go to the App Store and download the carrier app.
  2. Open the app and use it to purchase a cellular plan.

Scan a QR code

Use these steps to scan a QR code and download your eSIM settings. You must contact your carrier to activate service first.

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap Add Cellular Plan.
  3. Use your iPhone camera to scan the QR code.
  4. If you're asked to enter a confirmation code to activate the eSIM, enter the number provided with the QR code.

Switch between or erase eSIMs

Switch between eSIM

To switch which eSIM is active, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings > Cellular > Cellular Plans.

View how much signal each line has

When you have both the SIM card slot and the eSIM active, you'll see slightly different bars of signal. One line will have the normal bars of signal and the other line will have dots of signal just below. When you swipe down to view the Control Center, you'll see each line with bars of signal and the carrier name to help you identify which is which. Check out the screenshots below.
