Review – Hyperion Explorer Hybrid case for the Nokia Lumia Icon

Earlier this week I reviewed the expensive – but nonetheless really nice – Incipio Plume case for the Lumia Icon. Today, I accept one from Hyperion dubbed the 'Explorer Hybrid'. The case is much cheaper than the Incipio, running at effectually $iii.99 (just more when you cistron in aircraft). That's still a bargain and while the case is not exactly pretty, it does a squeamish task for protection.

Hyperion calls this 'Explorer Hybrid' considering it has a two Layer design with the inner a silicone core and an "Explorer Style Blueprint Anti-Slip Hard Shell exterior". That's a lot of mumbo colossal for saying this example has soft and hard protection built in, making it a pace higher up most difficult beat cases.  Information technology'southward basically a soft touch experience with nodule grips all around it.

The toll you pay though is in looks. While super functional, the case is past no means proficient looking. It's rather garish and it really takes away from the design of the Icon. Nonetheless, I'll get out it upwards to you if you're okay with it or not every bit information technology'southward really a personal decision.

I recall in terms of protection, this example will be towards the high end. Not OtterBox level high, but non also far off either.

The display is slightly protected when the Icon is placed brandish down due to the raised edges, though hard drops may be another story.

The extra bonus with this case is it has a built in kickstand. I've seen this gimmick before merely I have to admit, Hyperion's is pretty overnice. Specifically, the kickstand is business firm, doesn't feel like it will snap off and information technology doesn't rattle. That's a win-win in design. So if yous were looking for a mode to prop your phone out to lookout a movie and y'all want some solid protection, y'all may desire to consider this case.

For my personal use, I'thou non really interested in using this example as it's just a little likewise much "Route Warrior" for my daily needs and it hides the Icon too much. But looks aren't everything and for a lot of people, it's about office over design.

In that sense, the Hyperion Explorer Hybrid is a bully bargain.
